Why buy a Composting Toilet?

A compost toilet is a waterless/dry toilet that does not use water to flush the waste.

These Toilets also allow natural processes to produce compost that is useful to use in your garden as naturel compost.

This of course after a resting period which can depend on the type of toilet.

The typical compost toilet comes with two chambers, one  is in active toilet use and one is used for resting.

The first chamber is used for a year and then move over to the second chamber allowing the first one to rest and decompose for another year before emptying.

The 3 Top benefits of  Compost Toilets:

  1. The solid waste that is dealt on one side – doesn’t have to be treated with chemicals on sewage farms or end up in waterways. It is a more environmentally friendly way of degrading solid waste without using chemicals or storing it somewhere for a long time to break down; it takes a year and can then be reused as compost.
  2. Another advantage is that it saves water. There is no use of water resources in order to get rid of the waste, it doesn’t require any water at all and is a totally dry toilet, so there is no need for a water source in order for it to work.
  3. The next benefit is that the organic matter is allowed to go back into the soil where it belongs which can have positive effects on the soil improving the overall structure of it and nutrition, giving you a high standard of compost that can be used anywhere you like.

There are also other benefits of buying a composting toilet and these are, if you are concerned about the usage of chemical cleaners or bleaches that have to be used on regular toilets, there is no need to use these with a composting toilet. They are do not contribute and add to the sewage waste and sludge that is often wasted and dumped in a landfill, or put on agricultural land.

Another advantage is that as long as the decomposition is aerobic there would be no need for greenhouse gas emissions, it is also another way of helping the environment.

As well as the benefit of not having to use any water there is also the advantage of not having to use any electricity to make the toilet function, it is easy and clean to use and unlike most people expect does not smell or give off any insulting smells, so it can be kept clean and tidy.

Since there is no need for water or electric to use the toilet, there are no pipes needed to transport the water or the waste to a sewage farm and no vehicles needed, also adding to population in the environment, to remove the solid waste and transport it somewhere, giving a composting toilet a very low resource use.

There are two major types of composting toilets:

  • self-contained unites – that are installed directly in your bathroom
  • Central Units – that contain the toilet which is placed in your bathroom and the composter system which is placed below it.
